Sister Pearle Msali, Principal of Imvelleni Primary School Pearle’s Story
As told by Sister Sharlene Heninger
Pearle Msali has brought hope and light to the people of Ixopo. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints in the Kwamsashu Ward, Durban, South Africa. Sister Masali grew up in Ixopo, a community 45 minutes from the town of Underberg. As a youth she went to Durban to receive further education. When her mother grew too old to care for herself, Sister Msali returned to Ixopo where she watched over her. Pearle became Principal of the Imvuleni Primary School for children grades 1 through 7 in l990. She and her staff have done much to bring development and achievement to the children of the Ixopo area. After her mother’s death, she stayed on during the week and commuted from the Kwamashu area near Durban. This is about a two and a half hour commute through some very rough terrain.
When asked why she would make such sacrifice to continue the arduous life style required to serve at the school her reply was, “I felt it was my challenge to use my strength to help these children as much as I could in getting an education in order to improve their lives. They have very little in the way of material goods, and there is little to stimulate their bright minds. The children at the school are considered ‘the poorest of the poor’.” Enriching their minds and giving them skills to move forward was her challenge.

Elder Carl B. CookBy Elder Carl Cook
It is exciting to be with you in the Africa Southeast Area. Sister Cook and I began our service here in August, and we are grateful to be with you. Thank you for your faith and dedication to the gospel. Thank you for your many hours of service, for your tireless efforts in building the kingdom, and for your unselfishness in caring for the poor. We are humbled to serve with you.
It is a sacred privilege to be part of the historic events that are unfolding in this part of the world. The Church is well established in some our areas, but it is in its infancy compared to the growth yet to come. Each of us is blessed to witness the powerful hand of the Lord moving across this land. As covenant members of His Church, we must do all in our power to further the work. We must establish centres of strength from which the Church can expand, so that all of God’s children might enjoy the full blessings of the gospel. We create centres of strength by establishing the Lord’s kingdom in our personal lives, our families, branches, and wards. As we do this, the Lord’s work will progress, and each of us will be richly blessed, as will future generations to come.
